Hurricane Make-up Days

We have revised the 2017-2018 SRCS school calendar to reflect two hurricane make-up days:

  • Friday, October 20, is now a half-day Teacher Work Day (noon dismissal)
  • Friday, February 16, is now a regular, full school day

Summer Reading

The SRCS required Summer Reading Program for students entering Grades 1-5 is designed to encourage students to continue to read throughout the summer months to reinforce reading skills and to promote excitement and enthusiasm towards becoming a life-long reader.  There are two SRCS Summer Reading Program options that your child may choose from:  The Summer Reading Log OR the Summer AR Reading Program.

Summer Reading Log

Students must choose at least five books from their Reading Level.  They will log the books on the SRCS Summer Reading Log and return the completed log to their teacher by August 22nd.

AR Summer Reading Program

Summer AR is a great option to fulfill the summer reading requirement for students entering grades 1 – 5, and it’s easy to join the fun.  Your child must read at least five books from the public library, SRCS library, or home.  Then, come to the SRCS library and take the quizzes.  We have quizzes available for over 140,000 books.  Students earn points toward their summer reading requirement and don’t have to keep track of pages read.

The SRCS AR Summer Reading Program costs $25.00 per student – a small price to pay for a summer of reading fun and growth!  Please print and fill in the registration form, attach your payment, and return to the library.

The AR Summer Reading Program hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from June 16 – July 24, 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM.  Students may not be dropped off or left unattended at the library and must be accompanied by an adult.
