Media Center

The SRCS Media Center is available to teachers and students throughout the school day for doing research, checking out books, and taking Accelerated Reader tests. Additionally, students in kindergarten through fifth grade attend weekly 30-minute classes in the media center conducted by our teacher librarian, Mrs. Terri Burrage.

Media center resources include:

  • over 8,500 books
  • Monthly themes
  • Follett Destiny online catalog
  • Computers, iPads, and Chromebooks for student use
  • Ceiling mounted projector and speaker system for videos and lessons
  • Accelerated Reader access

Accelerated Reader (AR)

Accelerated Reader (AR) is a computerized reading management system. Students in grades 1 through 8 can choose a book from over 100,000 outstanding titles on the AR book list. Students take a short, objective test on the computer. Both the student and teacher receive reports on the progress. Parents can also visit Renaissance Home Connect online to look for books and check student AR points.

SRCS students can also register to be part of our AR Summer Reading Program. Once registered, the students can visit the media center on scheduled days to take AR tests during the summer months.

Book Fair

The book fair is typically held during the week before Thanksgiving in conjunction with Grandparents' Day.  A wide selection of books and materials is available through Scholastic. The media center receives 30% of the profits.

 Birthday Book Club

The Birthday Book Club Form  should be completed two weeks prior to the student's birthday and turned in.  Library Birthday Books will be commemorated with a special name plate and are presented to the child to check out on or near their birthday.  A $15 payment must be included with the completed form.
